What is a Mental Health First Aider ? A person who has successfully completed a Mental Health First Aid training. First Aiders have empathy for people living with mental illness and substance use challenges. Their increased mental health literacy enables them to identify risk factors and warning signs for mental health substance use challenges, confidence to provide strategies to help someone in crisis and non-crisis situations and knowledge of where to turn for help.     As a response to addressing the nursing shortage, the RN Reentry program was developed to assist nurses who are presently ineligible for reinstatement of their license because their license has lapsed, inactive, or nurses coming to Georgia through endorsement. RETAIN: RN Reentry Program As a response to addressing the nursing shortage, the RN Reentry program was developed to assist nurses who are presently ineligible for reinstatement of their license because their license has lapsed, inactive, or nurses coming to Georgia through endorsement. The objective is to establish a pathway to licensure, enabling these nurses to return to the healthcare workforce. The RN Reentry program has been approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing to provide the individualized combination of 40 hours of study relevant to nursing and 160 hours of supervised nursing practice required by the Board for reinstatement of licensure as a registered professional nurse. Eligibility Criteria for Registered Nurses A registered nurse with an active Georgia nursing license who has not practiced for several years and wishes to refresh their knowledge and skills in order to re-enter the nursing profession. A registered nurse seeking to reinstate their Georgia nursing license by completing a Board-approved reentry or refresher program. A registered nurse holding an active nursing license in another state/country who desires to obtain a Georgia nursing license through endorsement. More recently, the program was changed to a Tax Incentive Program (PTIP) and expanded to cover physician assistant and nurse practitioner preceptors. The new program allows community-based preceptors (licensed medical, osteopathic, advanced practice nurse, or physician assistant) who are not compensated for teaching, to earn tax incentives for providing community-based clinical training for students from the state’s public or private medical, osteopathic, advanced practice nursing, or physician assistant educational programs. This program provides a way for Georgia’s educational partners to say “thank you” for our volunteer, uncompensated community-based preceptors who train our next generation of key healthcare providers.     ​Three Rivers AHEC has three intensive programs that introduce high school students to careers in healthcare. Those intensive programs are: Scrubs Camp (Columbus, GA), Middle Georgia State University Scrubs Camp (Macon, GA) and Chart the Course Health Careers Academy. RECRUIT: Chart the Course Chart the Course is an intensive program tailored to prepare active senior HOSA students for careers in health. This supplemental program presents opportunities, including networking with local health professionals, tours of colleges and universities, participation in STEAM activities, resume enhancement, volunteer experiences, skill development, scholarship access, and more.
