For the past thirty years, Three Rivers AHEC has been dedicated to developing and nurturing partnerships with healthcare providers, health professions students, academic institutions, state and federal agencies and our communities. We place a strong focus on implementing educational activities that foster the “grow your own” approach. Over the years, we have built and sustained an effective intensive program and summer camp to explore the various health careers, with middle and high school scholars who aspire to pursue a healthcare profession. Additionally, we have maintained a successful program that was designed to integrate third-year medical students into the region to complete community-based clinical trainings, build a professional network, provide pipeline mentorship, and prepare for future employment. Furthermore, we have contributed to the retention of providers with continuing education and nurse reentry offerings. Through these efforts, we continue to broaden the supply and distribution of the healthcare workforce, especially in rural and underserved areas.
