Chart the Course Health Career Academy

Three Rivers AHEC's Chart the Course Health Career Academy selects 30 top rising seniors from high schools in Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Talbot, Muscogee, and Talbot Counties to participate in our in-depth exploration of health career professions. There is no cost to be part of the Academy. To apply students must have at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average and a written letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor at a school. Priority will be given to students that attend the Chart the Course Summer Camp as well as students currently enrolled in a Healthcare Science program at their high school.

The meetings each year provide the students a unique experience that normally would not be available in a school classroom setting. Monthly meetings are held in the evening along with 1 special out of town event. In town events may include touring local health care facilities, performing dissections on cadavers, and participating in a simulation lab used by medical residents. Regardless, each experience will be one that each student will remember.

At the end of the Academy year, students will earn a $250.00 scholarship provided they have completed all the requirements and upon enrolling in a post-secondary health science program. Requirements for the Academy include maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA and participating a minimum of 20 hours with the Academy. These hours are to include attending at least half of the offered events and at least 10 hours of health care related volunteer or shadowing experience.

Students interested in applying to our chart the course academy, please contact our office at 706-507-0894 or you may contact us online. The Academy follows the school calendar year – beginning in September and ending in May.

* The 2008-2009 Chart the Course Academy and Camps were partially funded by a grant from United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley.
